Conducting Regulatory Investigations
Regulatory investigations are in the news a lot these days. But the high-profile stories such as the Arar, Schreiber-Mulroney and Air India Inquiries and the investigations into the spending of British MPs are just the tip of the iceberg. Every day, hundreds of regulatory agencies across the country conduct investigations into human rights complaints, employment standards violations, professional misconduct, false advertising, pollution and myriad other cases.
These investigations are not always governed by the same rules as police investigations, although many of the same skills apply.
The Canadian Institute’s course on Conducting Regulatory Investigations is designed to bring together investigators for two days of intensive training in the core skills of the job.
Starting with the basics of administrative law that apply in the regulatory context, the course will move on to cover every phase of the investigation, from planning through writing the final report. The course will incorporate practical exercises that will improve your skills and confidence levels.
This is your chance to learn from top-notch investigators, including a former CLEAR Investigator of the Year, former Commission Counsel of the Walkerton Inquiry, and other distinguished instructors. You’ll also have a chance to network with investigators from a wide variety of organizations, and to learn from their ideas.
